Primary Years Programme / Curriculum Coordinator
Education: I attended Queen’s University, Canada, and graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree and a Bachelor of Arts, Honours. I also hold additional qualifications in Early Childhood, Special Education and English as an Additional Language.
I was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. My mum was a nurse and my father a Canadian Air Force pilot. Moving to new towns was a consistent part of my childhood and something I have continued to enjoy all my life.
After working in Canada, I moved to Berlin. This is where I met my husband, and we’ve been travelling the world ever since, through Beijing, Bangkok, Amsterdam, Vancouver, Jakarta, Kyiv and now, Mauritius. We also have twin sons.
The vast majority of my career has been spent in PYP schools, so teaching through inquiry and using a constructivist philosophy is core to who I am as a teacher. I believe it is vital we teach our students how to think, how to learn, and how to care for themselves, others and the environment.
Much of my career focused on teaching and administrating in early childhood, although I have taught almost all elementary grade levels. I spent the last six years as the curriculum coordinator, supporting teachers with their planning, teaching, and assessment. I also spent part of my career as the Principal of early years and elementary school in Jakarta. I love working with teachers and parents as much as I love working with children and am fortunate to have found such a fulfilling career.
I am passionate about providing students significant, challenging, relevant and engaging experiences that empower them to develop essential life-long learning skills and to make meaning while they construct their understanding of the world.
