Welcome to the International Preparatory School (IPS) in Mauritius. My name is Bruce Ashton, and it is my hope that our site provides you with all the information you need about our school. I also hope that it helps you understand the spirit and values that are key to our work here at IPS.
This year IPS is celebrating its 27th year as an independent international school.
In 2007 IPS was accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS). We are proud of this award as it recognises us as a school that offers an all-around high-quality education, one that meets or exceeds internationally agreed standards. We are very aware of the responsibility this carries and so continually strive to maintain and further develop the educational programme which we offer our students. Our Strategic Plan (revised in 2014) guides us in placing student learning at the forefront of all we do. In November of this school year, we will undertake our 10 Year CIS Accreditation visit that will lead us to further school improvement.
IPS is now a candidate school* for the Primary Years Programme. IPS is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education that International Preparatory School believes is important for our students.
IPS is a community school, and each section of our community is critical with all stakeholders adding value through their contributions to the ethos and climate of the school. Students, teachers, parents, board members and community friends are all encouraged to work in collaboration to further the vision and mission of the school.
As is common in many other international and national primary schools worldwide, our programme reflects an inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning. We place a significant emphasis on helping our children develop a genuine and vibrant love of learning, one that they will carry with them beyond IPS and through their lives. We support them in developing confidence and fluency in the critical basic literacy and numeracy skills and in putting their natural curiosity to work in learning about our world through the various subject areas.
After school hours, we also extend our children’s interests in many sports, activities and hobbies utilising extra-curricular activities.
I do hope that you will decide to come and join our lively school community and extend a warm welcome to all of our website visitors!
